the state of Maine?? The CIA (Culinary Arts Institute) one of the best is in Upstate New York….that is close to Maine. You may have to leave you state for a specific degree school. I had a friend recently graduate CIA and her tutiton for the whole schooling was under $50,000.
But here is the kicker w/the culinary field she came out working below my husband as a cook not a chef making less. My hubby never went to school just went to work in the kitchen and "paid his dues". My point being if culinary is your passion start working in a kitchen see if you can handle it. No offense but kitchen is a rough place for a girl it's a guys world and there is tons of pressure (and fun when the rush is over) try working in the back first see if you can hang then go on to pursue your degree. Or maybe like my hubby you would be a duck to water and find it comes easy w/o having to pay for the education. He still reads books and learns new terms he may have learned in culinary school but even then the ppl that went to school still forget those terms.
Good luck…kitchen work is long late hours (kiss your friday and sat nights goodbye that is the busiest time in restaurants) but if you can do it, it's very rewarding.

basically culinary arts involves cooking, not baking. you should take a pastry course if you want to learn more about cake making, and baking in general. as for salary, it kind of depends on how good you are and where you live, and the travel opportunities…that's kind of up to you

Yea if you're a good pastry chef you can be making almost $250,000 a year. Or at least that's what my friend whose a pastry chef makes. Its really hard work and it takes natural talent.

Ahhhhh right up my alley…. I am not familiar with GRCC because I have only been visiting those that are within a few hundred miles of me.

    Good luck with your essay!

Try Pennsylvania Culinary Institute Le Cordon Bleu some of the best in the WORLD. They have schools all over the US and abroad. I went to their open house and thought they were phenomenal.

You will need to learn conversions as well as measurements. Buy a cook book that has these and practice them. Below is a sylabus of a course. My stepdaughter will be going to school for this. Good luck.

you should check to see what kind of qualifications are needed. The best would be a community college near you. It is usually the mose valuable if you have no experience. If you are have kitchen experience, check with culinary schools that you can afford and have a good placement service for graduate.

As a Le Cordon Bleu culinary graduate hopefully i can shed some light on the situation…..we used the same book in our kitchens classes (the hands on cooking classes) for the entire time…..Professional Cooking fifth edition….by Wayne Gisslen….its a great book to learn from…just start at the beginning…..I'm sure if you are just looking to get a head start….if you found one of the older versions of this book….perhaps used….it wouldn't make much difference…..

in addition to our cooking classes (skills, soup stock sauce and starch production, meats, seafood, baking, advanced classical cuisine, advanced international cuisine, and garde manger) we took related courses such as…..sanitation, food service cost control, wines and spirits, purchasing, communication, food and beverage management…..and so on

hopefully this gives you two some kind of idea as far as what is ahead…..every culinary school is different…..but these are some of the things that i experienced in my education.

Good Luck to both of you!!

learn how to cook, use an oven, stove, fridge, knives, bowls, whisks, learn how to read a cookbook. learn to use measuring cups (learn how to add/subtract) know what different kids of fruits and veggies there are and when they're in season. learn to bake (and not out of a box)

After finishing high school, you can attend either the Culinary Arts Institue of America in Hyde Park,NY or Johnson and Wales in Rhode Island or other colleges that offer Culinary Arts Program. They are usually 4 years long, like most colleges. Then usually every two years you can take a test and upgrade your degree.

Well to be honest a cook can make anywhere from 5.15 at McDonald's to almost limitless for chefs who own their own businesses. Take Emeril Lagasse; owns a few restaurants, has a TV show, own line of cookware and grocery line. Pulls in an estimated 150 million a year.

i would suggest you go to dls-csb, thats infront of dlsu. if you want to enter a "normal" school. but if you want to enter a school hu only does culinary education, you can go to cca. thats in katipunan.

I know that I answered your other question about a different school, but I don't want you to think that I'm stalking you :) I actually looked at that site where consumers can complain about a service or business http://www.ripoffreport.com and there were a couple posted about the art institute of dallas (and other 'art institutes'). The art institute is one of those private schools as opposed to the county community college or vo-tech school.

I can't tell you which culinary arts colleges are good, but I can tell you it's a good career. If you like cooking, it will be a rewarding career.

You didn't say what state you're in which would have helped.
So… to find more info you'll have to do your own google search for culinary arts colleges and find the rest that I didn't know which ones to give you.

Look towards finding a job at a restaurant or catering group. Not as much like a Chili's, but at a local fine dining establishment. Signing up to a local temp agency can help find a position as well.

You're only turning 18, so you still have a lot of work to do before you make the big bucks.

  22. shortyangelgal

Write cookbooks. Start a catering company. Open a restaurant of your own. Teach adult education classes. Try to get your own show on Food network. Sell your creations in a store that caters to busy career people as take out. Contribute articles to food magazines.

I would start by getting a culinary arts degree. If you go ahead and get a B.A. degree you can get teacher certified in your state. Teacher Certification laws are different per state. (if you live in Fl, you can get certified in 9 months online) Use that degree, certification and experience to get that job.

Paul Smith's College in NY is a good school.
If i knew your location, i could help more.
